About Us

What is our mission?

According to the statistics of the government of the United Kingdom, more than 200,000 Hongkongers have applied to reside in the country. There is a growing need for a platform that allows the borrowing and sharing of books, especially the Chinese ones, among the Hongkonger community in the country for the preservation and learning of Hong Kong language and Hong Kong culture.

With this platform and through books and literature, we endeavour to bring together Hongkongers in the country, preserve the ideas, culture, history and values of Hongkongers, bring Hongkongers in the UK closer to the original civilised society of Hong Kong, and revive the free and cultural aspect of Hong Kong in the UK.

dandelion-large-combined.jpg

Our logo features a stylised dandelion, symbolising the passing on of language and culture to the next generation—an embodiment of our mission at Hong Kong BookShare. The dandelion is formed by two open books, representing the circulation and exchange of books. At its centre, a prominent dot connects the books, signifying how literature fosters connection and acts as a bridge within the community.

Additionally, the logo subtly incorporates the letters "HK," emphasizing our Hong Kong heritage, while its overall silhouette mirrors the Union Jack, signifying our presence in the UK and the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and British communities. We hope that this new logo will reflect our founding vision—making every book a bridge that brings people together and ensuring that our cultural heritage is passed down for generations to come.

We sincerely thank the var.studio team for voluntarily conceptualising and designing the new logo for Hong Kong BookShare, bringing our vision to life and presenting it to the public.
