This diary, which was finally completed after eighteen years, is a complete record of the "June Fourth Movement" in 1989 from 15 April 15 to 4 June, from Peking University to Tiananmen Square, and about the core of the student movement. It is a book of personal experience, witness, recollection and analysis of the whole process of people, major events, key insider information and high-level decision-making and controversies of student movement organizations.

This book is an abridgement of the preliminary draft of the diary completed by the author in 1990-1991. It records the author's initial participation in the establishment of the Preparatory Committee of the Peking University Student Government Association, to his election as the chairman of the Beijing University Student Government Association and finally as the square The deputy commander-in-chief and acting commander-in-chief of the student movement, until the early morning of 4 June, 1989, when he presided over the vote to evacuate the square, and other historical records from the passionate opening to the tragic ending.

Readers can learn from the diary the key role of the Peking University Preparatory Committee in the movement; how Chai Ling contacted Deng Xiaoping to seek compromise; how the president of Peking University supported the campus democracy plan of the student movement organization; how the "stars" of the student movement lost touch with the organization; How the movement organizations failed to stop the individual hunger strikes initiated by "stars"; the inside story of the decision-making in the Square after the hunger strike; why the students could not withdraw from the Square; what the "black hands" of the student movement did; the early morning of 4 June, 1989 in Tiananmen Square scenes of major historical sites that were cleared by the military force.
