From 2010 to 2012, photographer Ki Wong and her partners initiated the KLACK Photography and Culture Magazine, which had four semi-annual issues to explore different themes such as intimacy and salon photography.
KLACK Photography and Culture Magazine is a publication created to showcase and analyze the unique expressive power and cultural dimensions of photography and visual imagery. It aims to uncover distinctive visuals and high-quality creative works that may fall outside the public’s usual perception of photography. Through multifaceted analysis and interpretation, the magazine seeks to bring new perspectives to light.
Grounded in observations of our surrounding social environment, our main goal is to conduct in-depth research on local photography. We approach this with engaging methods and theoretical insights, striving to expand the expressive potential, essence, and meaning of photography. In doing so, we hope to promote photography as a form of cultural and creative education.
Ultimately, we aim to organize the material we collect within a historical framework of photography. From Pictorialism, New Photography, to Contemporary Photography, the medium’s styles and approaches are vast and diverse. If we can consolidate these scattered, lesser-known creative images using the lens of photographic history and theory, the results may spark unexpected inspiration and open up new possibilities beyond mainstream art photography.
