“Ingat!” That’s what we say when we part ways. What are the goodbyes we say as migrant workers? Goodbye to our families, our homes, the lives we used to live, and sometimes even the places we live in at this very moment. Ingat is a reminder to take care of ourselves – both physically and mentally. But for others, Ingat has come to mean more than just “take care.” Ingat is a prayer. Ingat is a blessing.
Migrant domestic worker-led creative collectives have continued to organize and support members by facilitating collaboration and expression, in Hong Kong as well as transnationally. Ingat is an anthology of prose, poetry and photography, co-published by a collective of migrant domestic worker creatives in Hong Kong including members of Migrant Writers of Hong Kong and Lensational, co-published with local indie art press Small Tune Press. This anthology carves a space to learn about the work of migrant domestic worker creatives based in Hong Kong and beyond, and to celebrate them in order to support their work in the future.
