This book is a bilingual illustrated volume by Hong Kong philosophy professor Cheung Chan-fai. It features an essay entitled "Then and There: A Phenomenological Reflection on Utopia", together with its English version. In this work, the author re-examines the meaning of utopia through the lens of phenomenology—particularly Heidegger's existential phenomenology. He critically reviews the limitations of utopian thought from Plato to Thomas More, explores modern utopian and dystopian phenomena through Michel Foucault's theory of heterotopia, and concludes by affirming the positive significance of utopia for humanity through Ernst Bloch's philosophy of hope. Complementing the essays, the book includes an extensive collection of photographs of Hong Kong's Umbrella Movement taken by the author himself, illustrating and reinforcing the arguments presented in the text.
